My previous laserdisc player died a couple months ago so I had to replace it... decided to give the DVL-919 a try, seeing how it goes since I can’t really afford a HLD-X9 just yet :) (convincing my wife that I should spent $1000+ onto a player for a dead format is more the problem if I’m honest)
I bought that one, which is pretty cheap compared to prices outside of Japan...

Hopefully I like it, if not I guess I’ll just sell it back... we’ll see.

Do they not have the internet in Japan?

The internet will never be as cool as a laserdisc :)

“Laserdisc? Wait, laserdiscs?”
Then I remembered you’re in Japan, which solved every question I had in my head.

Til they still make laserdisc players.

And here I am trying to dump my collection at the “gentle encouragement” of my wife.

If I were around, be certain I’d help you get rid of it :(

Last batch was Pioneer DVL-919, the model I bought, in 2009

Tough to say no to 50-100 yen per movie :)

Ah, so it died well before VHS, interesting.

the VHS was sort dead long ago... only reason it kept being alive was because of China and outdated security video systems around the world... LD were easy to kill as they were not used as recording devices. Nonetheless 1978 to 2002 for commercial... It had a pretty good run :)
